Even if everyone is still questioning if Minimalism as trend ever went out of fashion, since its born thanks to Miuccia Prada, designers are in the 1990s for Spring 2014, but this season grunge and punk are giving space to the clean minimalism of the late ‘90s early 2000. Delicate spaghetti-strapped slip dresses and simple suits and separates are a strong element of difference to the grunge movement (thanks Saint Laurent!) that we have seen in the past season. The mood is more polished but without loosing any power of eye catching element.
Introducing cleaning textures and silhouettes, the slouchy jeans, the cropped tops and the chunky heels are still massive pieces but simpler: so basically the “less is more” fashion rule stays strong from Paris to NYC across the Spring Summer 2014 .
A strong and cool rebel lable like Rick Owens, embraces the extreme luxurious sportwear in a natural palette, with a huge use of draping and leather refinitions.
Also Junya Watanabe is working only with denim, ultra-suede, and cotton, the Japanese designer cut coats, tunics, and dresses with draps, layers, twists and knots.
An amazing brand new way to see the Minimalism is Alexander Wang: girlish, still pure and really new and interesting palette (pastels) is a little bit of fresh air mixing sportwear and clean lines.
Basically Minimalism offers elegance, and a dress down effect that works 24/7, but the real trend need to keep simple also the accessories and make up and hair, and also to keep an eye on cuts and quality of the clothes otherwise it might look very cheap.
