Linda And Fashion Inside Out

We are adding a new name linked to the world of the web to the ones we have presented to you in the past weeks and this name is Linda Sharkey. Linda’s site is http://fashioninsideout.co.uk/, a site in which next to the daily snapshots documenting Linda’ style, there are many fashion news and interviews done by Linda herself with a camera, a different and very cool way to describe fashion and talk about style. Linda, a past in the world of pr, now also a freelance journalist, as well as the star of this blog, is a girl full of life and of things to tell. So let’s meet her and know her better through this interview!

Could you tell me when did you realize that you liked fashion so much that you wanted to make it into a real work?
When I moved to London my life changed completely, so did my wardrobe and style, I became obsessed with fashion websites and with what I will wear next day. While studying Journalism I chose fashion as the theme for my online project and then the adventure began.

When was your blog born? When did you decide that you wanted a blog and why?
It first started as a University project during my second year of Journalism in 2009. But after I graduated I re-launched it, so I’d say it was properly born in July 2011. Since then I have tried to post something new almost every day. I decided to come back to it because I had the feeling that it could lead to my dreams. With Fashion Inside Out I wanted to share my goals, my personal take on trends and life experiences that surprisingly have put me in places I never thought of, have introduced me to amazing people and have motivated me to keep pushing life projects and gosh, it’s turned out to be an amazing journey!

Tell me where do you find inspirations for your blog.
I am inspired by magazines, fashion shows and other fashion blogs. But most, by my own experiences, the places I go to and the streets I walk by.

Even if it’s not totally an ‘outfit’ blog, there are a lot of personal styles. Why did you decide to dedicate so much part of it to outfits, and not for example to fashion news or vip news?
Well, it began as a fashion news site, particularly comparing fashion magazines’ contents and their influence in the industry.  But when I relaunched I did a little experiment: taking daily snaps of my outfit and making sure that my personality came across. It had an amazing feedback and brought so many new followers. By making it more personal and sharing my fashion experiences it was just more enjoyable.

There’s a very nice part dedicated to interviews. Could you tell me how do you choose who do you want to meet and talk to? Which was the best interview in your opinion? Do you have any funny moment related to interviews that you want to share with us?
I like to have a variety of interviewees, from actors and top models to designers. It’s difficult to say which one is the best, but I think the interview with British actor David Frampton was a fun one. It was all easy-going, plus he’s an incredibly handsome man so that made my girls go gaga for him. A quite funny moment at this interview was that I was so blushed after walking with the video gear and setting up all by myself. I was just getting embarrassed saying ‘please Linda stop it, he will think that you find him way too hot’… And I rarely get shy, so didn’t want to give that impression. At the end we had a good laugh but I recently saw the video interview jumping around the web and one of his fans tweeted ‘omg this girl is sooo into David’… I laughed too much! Overall, a very funny bit in every interview has been doing them all alone. Just picture the scene: I need to set up, press the record button, come back beside my interviewee and count 1,2,3… ‘Hi FashionInsideOut this time we are with…’ It’s funny to explain this to each one of them.

Tell us something about your relationship with fashion. Who are the designers that you admire the most? There’s someone among the new designer that you think will be huge in a future? How can you describe your personal style?
With time I got more involved with different brands, high end and high street. Although I wear pretty much high street, I do love particular labels for shoes and handbags such as Alexander Wang, Louboutin, Prada, Balenciaga, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Minkoff, Giuseppe Zanotti, Acne and can’t resist Phoebe Philo’s Celine collections. There are many rising designers at the moment, but since I am based in London I would say that British designer Sophie Hulme made a fantastic debut at LFW AW12.

You have worked also in the pr world and you are a freelance journalist.
How these other worlds are related and have influenced your work for the blog?
These experiences have enriched my professional skills and understanding of the media in so many ways…In building a network on contacts, getting to know the industry and producing quality and dynamic content.

A suggestion of style, a trick about styling that you have learned yourself and that you want to share with our readers?
Raid the high street and go for good quality classic pieces. Don’t worry about repeating your wardrobe, mix and match, and go for opposite looks (rock chic, elegant, urban), just change accessories and hair style. You’ll see how much you can wear the same garments without looking at yourself in the mirror and feeling repetitive, that’s the key of a creative style.

Tell us your personal goal/dream/project for the future!
In the near future I want to travel and keep meeting amazing people. I have a couple of projects in mind including collaborations and more video blogging. TV and online success is pretty much my dream.

Conosciamola meglio grazie a questa intervista!

Potresti dirci quando hai capito che la moda ti piaceva così tanto da volerne fare un lavoro?
 Quando mi sono trasferita a Londra, la mia vita è cambiata completamente, così come si sono trasformati il mio guardaroba e il mio stile, sono diventata ossessionata dai siti web di moda e programmavo con attenzione quello che avrei indossato il giorno seguente. Mentre studiavo giornalismo ho scelto la moda come tema per il mio progetto on-line e da lì l’avventura è iniziata.

Quando è nato il tuo blog? Quando hai deciso che volevi un tuo sito e perché?
È iniziato come un progetto universitario durante il mio secondo anno di Giornalismo nel 2009. Ma dopo la laurea l’ho rilanciato, quindi direi che è nato veramente nel luglio 2011. Da allora ho cercato di inserire qualcosa di nuovo quasi ogni giorno. Ho deciso di ritornare a lanciare questo progetto perché avevo la sensazione che avrebbe potuto condurmi ai miei sogni. Con Fashion Inside Out volevo condividere i miei obiettivi, il mio personale pensiero sulle tendenze e me mie opinioni sulle esperienze di vita che, sorprendentemente, mi hanno condotto in luoghi che non avrei mai pensati di vedere, fatto conoscere persone fantastiche e mi hanno motivato a continuare a dar voce ai miei progetti di vita e, caspita, si è rivelato un viaggio incredibile!

Ci puoi raccontare dove trovi ispirazione per il tuo blog.
Sono ispirata dalle riviste di moda, dalle sfilate e dai blog di moda. Ma la maggior parte arriva dalle mie esperienze personali, dai posti dove vado e le strade su cui mi trovo a camminare.

Anche se non è completamente un blog  su come ti vesti tu e sui tuoi outfit, ci sono un sacco di stili personali. Perché hai deciso di dedicare tanta parte del sito al tuo stile e non, per esempio, a notizie di moda o sui vip?
Beh, il blog nasce come un sito di news di moda, soprattutto basato sul confronto tra i vari contenuti delle riviste di moda e la loro influenza sul settore. Ma quando ho rilanciato il blog ho fatto un piccolo esperimento: fare tutti i giorni uno scatto al mio vestito e fare in modo che la mia personalità venisse fuori. Ha avuto un riscontro incredibile e ha portato tanti nuovi lettori. Rendere più personale il sito e condividere le mie esperienze di moda è stato solo più piacevole.

C’è una parte molto bella dedicata alle interviste. Come fai a scegliere chi vuoi incontrare e con cui vuoi parlare davanti una telecamera? Qual è stata la migliore intervista a tuo parere realizzata fino ad ora? Hai qualche momento divertente da condividere con noi?
Mi piace avere una certa varietà fra i personaggi intervistati, dagli attori e top model ai designer. È difficile dire quale è il migliore, ma credo che l’intervista con l’attore britannico David Frampton è stata sicuramente una di quelle divertenti. È stato tutto facile, in più lui è un uomo incredibilmente affascinante e tutte le ragazze che mi seguono vanno matte per lui. Un momento molto divertente in questa intervista è stato essere così arrossita dopo aver camminato con l’attrezzatura video e montarla tutta da sola. Ero imbarazzata nel pensare: ‘per favore smettila Linda, penserà che sei arrossita perché lo trovi figo’ … E io raramente sono timida e non volevo certo dare questa impressione. Alla fine ci siamo fatti una bella risata di tutto questo, ma di recente ho visto la video intervista che gira sul web e una delle sue fan su twitter ha scritto: “Ma questa ragazza è totalmente presa e affascinata da David”. Ho riso troppo! Nel complesso, è sicuramente divertente il fatto che in ogni intervista devo fare tutto da sola. Immaginate la scena: ho bisogno di impostare, premere il pulsante di registrazione, tornare accanto al mio intervistato e contare 1,2,3  e dire: “Ciao FashionInsideOut questa volta siamo con …”. È divertente spiegare questo ad ognuno degli intervistati.

Raccontaci qualcosa del tuo rapporto con la moda. Chi sono i designer che ammiri di più? C’è qualcuno tra i nuovi stilisti che pensi sarà famoso in un futuro? Come puoi descrivere il tuo stile personale?
Con il tempo sono riuscita a creare uno stile che si basa sia sui marchi alti che su quelli delle grandi catene a basso costo,  marchi di fascia alta e quelli High Street. Anche se mi vesto molto con le proposte High Street, amo molti brans, soprattutto per quanto riguarda scarpe e borse, nomi come Alexander Wang, Louboutin, Prada, Balenciaga, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Minkoff, Giuseppe Zanotti, Acne e non posso resistere alle creazioni di Phoebe Philo per Celine. Ci sono molti designer emergenti in questo momento, ma dato che la mia sede è a Londra, direi che la designer britannica Sophie Hulme ha esordito in modo fantastico alla London Fashion Week con la collezione a/w 2012-13.

Hai lavorato anche nel mondo delle pubbliche relazioni e sei una giornalista freelance. Come questi altri mondi sono collegati e hanno influenzato il tuo lavoro per il blog?
Queste esperienze hanno arricchito le mie competenze professionali e la mia comprensione dei media in tanti modi . Ad esempio, nel costruire una rete di contatti, conoscere l’industria e riuscire a produrre contenuti di qualità e dinamici.

Un suggerimento di stile, un trucco di styling che hai imparato e che desideri condividere con i nostri lettori?
Razziare le grandi catene a basso costo e scegliere pezzi classici di ottima qualità. Non preoccupatevi di ripetere il vostro guardaroba, il mix and match va benissimo e cercate di andare verso stili opposti (rock chic, elegante e urban), basta cambiare gli accessori e lo stile dei capelli. Vedrete quanto si possono indossare gli stessi abiti senza guardarsi nello specchio e sentirsi ripetitiva, che è la chiave di uno stile creativo.

Dicci il tuo obiettivo personale, un sogno o un progetto per il futuro!
Nel prossimo futuro voglio viaggiare e continuare a incontrare persone straordinarie. Ho un paio di progetti in mente tra cui collaborazioni e incrementare il video blogging. TV e successo on-line sono  praticamente il mio sogno.
