For our usual appointment with new faces of the blogging world, today we meet Toni May, a young fashion writer from England that tells us her vision of the fashion system, keeping us up to date with style news and with her opinion on celebrities’ outfit from red carpets around the globe. Here’s our chat with Toni.
How did you get to bloggin’? When did your blog born? Why did you decide to dedicate yourself to the web?
I always had an opinion or something to say when it came to fashion, I’m sure my friends were bored of my random fashion facts that I would recite or my constant ramblings about celebrity outfits, so in August 2010 my best friend suggested I take up blogging. That was the birth of FashionLoving.co.uk. Ever since I guess I was bitten by the blogging ‘bug’. I loved that I could have my voice out there and that I could learn and share what is essentially my passion to all that are interested.
What characterizes your blog? What distinguishes you?
My blog covers fashion news where I usually write a lot about celebrities, style, designers and photography. It’s always hard to stand out from all the other fashion blogs out there, but I suppose I always try to find things that are interesting, whether it’s reporting on a fashion show or giving misguided advice on style choices, I like to keep it all fun.
What do you like about the fashion world and what you do not like?
I love the creativity and artistic expression that you find in the fashion world, it’s just immense. With any industry I’m sure there’s good sides and bad sides but I haven’t personally found anything that I really dislike about the fashion industry yet.
But in your opinion we will see the future of fashion only on the web? Printed magazines in your opinion will not exist anymore?
I think that for sure there’s an increasing amount of people, brands, models and designers that have taken to the internet, it makes sense: it’s more accessible for readers and you can share a lot more. Will we see a decline in print magazines? Probably, just over the last year print magazine sales have decreased. So maybe someday in the future, I’m not exactly sure when, everything will be web-based. You just never know!
What inspires you in your work as a blogger, where you get your ideas?
I’m inspired by pretty much anything. I usually get ideas when I least expect it (that’s why I have my handy notepad to jot stuff down before I forget) but I just try to take in everything around me and usually from that an idea for a post is formed.
What designers do you think are the most interesting right now?
I really like designers like Helmut Lang, Pierre Balmain, Erdem, Christopher Kane, Marni, Mary Katrantzou. I could quite possibly go on forever.
A new name in fashion to bet on in the future?
Oh geez, this is a tough a question! I would probably say Michael van der Ham, I am a fan of his designs and I feel like as his career develops he will create some Amazing pieces.
A dream (personal or related to your work) for the future?
My personal goal I guess is to ensure that Fashion Loving’s community grows, I want it to be the place where everyone can discuss all the happenings that are going on in the Fashion World.

Come sei arrivata al mondo del bloggin’? Quando è nato il tuo blog? Perché hai deciso di dedicarti al web?
Ho sempre avuto un parere o qualcosa da dire quando si tratta di moda, sono sicura che i miei amici erano annoiati dei vari argomenti di moda che ogni tanto sciorinavo o le mie divagazioni costanti sugli abiti indossati dalle celebrità, così nell’agosto 2010 la mia migliore amica mi suggerì di diventare blogger. Questo ha segnato la nascita di FashionLoving.co.uk. Eda quando è nato il blog penso di essere stata presa dalla cocente passione per il blogging. Mi è subito piaciuto il fatto che avrei potuto essere una voce là fuori e che avrei potuto imparare e condividere ciò che è essenzialmente la mia passione con tutti coloro che sono interessati.
Cosa caratterizza il tuo blog? Cosa lo distingue da altri fashion blogs?
Nel blog di solito mi occupo di news di moda, quindi devo di solito scrivere molto riguardo alle celebrities, allo stile, ai designer e anche di fotografia. È sempre difficile distinguersi dagli altri blog che ci sono in giro, ma cerco sempre di trovare cose che risultino interessanti, che si tratti di parlare di una sfilata di moda o di dare consigli sulle scelte di stile, mi piace che tutto sia raccontato e presentato in maniera divertente.
Cosa ti piace del mondo della moda e cosa invece non ti piace?
Amo la creatività e l’espressione artistica che si trova nel mondo della moda, è semplicemente immensa. Come in ogni settore sono sicura che ci sia i lati buoni e quelli cattivi, ma personalmente non ho trovato nulla che non mi piaccia nel fashion system…ancora.
Ma secondo te il futuro della moda sarà solo sul web? Quale a tuo avviso il futuro delle riviste cartacee?
Credo che di sicuro ci sia una quantità crescente di persone, marchi, modelli e designer che seguono assiduamente internet e questo per me ha molto senso: è più accessibile per i lettori e si può condividere molto di più. Vedremo un declino delle riviste cartacee? Probabilmente, proprio negli ultimi anni le vendite dei giornali cartacei sono calate. Forse un giorno in futuro, non sono sicura di quando esattamente, tutto sarà web-based. Ma non si può mai sapere!
Cosa ti ispira nel tuo lavoro come blogger, dove prendi le idee?
Sono ispirata da praticamente qualsiasi cosa. Di solito le idee arrivano quando meno te le aspetti (è per questo che ho il mio taccuino a portata di mano per annotare le cose prima che mi dimentichi), ma cerco solo di assorbire da tutto quello che è intorno a me e di solito da questo nascono facilmente idee per un post.
Quali designers ritieni più interessanti al momento?
Mi piacciono molto stilisti come Helmut Lang, Pierre Balmain, Erdem, Christopher Kane, Marni, Mary Katrantzou. E potrei probabilmente andare avanti per sempre con i nomi.
Un nome sul quale scommettere per il futuro?
Oh cavolo, questo è una domanda difficile! Probabilmente direi Michael van der Ham, io sono una fan dei suoi vestiti e sento che se la sua carriera proseguirà avrà modo di creare alcuni pezzi incredibili.
Un sogno (personale o relativo al tuo lavoro) per il futuro?
Il mio obiettivo personale credo sia quello di garantire una crescita alla comunità Fashion Loving, voglio che sia il luogo dove tutti possano discutere gli avvenimenti che stanno accadendo nel mondo della moda.
